AS Coursework evaluation questions and suggestions: Horror specific


1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Your horror film: what research did you do? What did you find out and what did you use in your own film? Were there any things / ideas that you thought were useful or were there any aspects you definitely did not want to copy? WHY? NB the key words here are USE [ie copy], DEVELOP [ie go beyond] CHALLENGE [ie subvert, change or twist away from expectations]
2. How does your media product represent particular social groups ?
Your horror film: what social group/s have you got in your film? [e.g young people? Young girls? Adults?] How did you dress them? How did you have them behave? Speak? What props did you give them? What locations did you put them in? Key words are HOW and WHY?

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Your horror film: which film making company might make this and who would distribute it? Look at existing distribution companies and see who makes your kind of film. Choose a company and justify your choice – e.g is it existing products? Audience? Geography? Intended audience? Cost? Reach of dist. co.? Advertising? Expertise? History? WHAT?

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?
Your horror film: Who precisely is your target audience? Draw up a profile of their gender, age, interests and hobbies, education, social background, looks, income etc and state how and why you have targeted them. [e.g. have a photo of a typical viewer and write a para or so about them...] This one is WHO?

5. How did you attract/address your audience?
Your horror film: What precise methods have you used? Image? Representation? Language? Subjects addressed in your film?  Posters? Advertising e.g. viral? This one is HOW?

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Your horror film: So this is all the technical stuff! Cameras? Editing techniques? Photographic techniques? Sound?  Drawbacks, difficulties and advantages – what are you most proud of? Key word here is TECHNOLOGIES!


7. Looking back at your preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?
Your horror film: questions to ask yourselves: did you integrate the preliminary task into the main? Why / why not? How did your skills improve between the one and the other? Same technologies as previous question. Key word here is PROGRESSION!
